Development on Playing Fields at Nescot

Playing fields closed

NESCOT College in Ewell informed local sports teams on Friday 1st May that from September they would no longer be renting out their sports fields to teams due to “growth and redevelopment plans”. They said they may anticipate renting out fields again in the future.

Hundreds of local children and amateur sports players now without a training/playing ground.

It seems like the first step they would take on the road to selling off that land and turning it into houses (especially given that developers are trying to build hundreds of houses on the land next door). One planned development at Priest Hill appears to be spawning another development on playing fields that are on Green Belt. Residents Association run Epsom & Ewell Borough Council. Planning Offices and councillors are likely to be aware of the plans for development, a few days before East Surrey Election. Worthy of consideration before votes are cast.

Advice from Sport England. Importance of protecting playing fields reiterated. The latest data indicate our role as a statutory consultee saw 94% of all concluded planning applications involving playing fields result in the protection or improvement of facilities.
